He was also very influential and intelligent as even after suffering leprosy he still had ties among the nobles and the English and managed to successfully capture William Wallace. He was ambitious and wanted his bloodline to rule the country even after his death. Robert de Brus was a ruthless and opportunist individual who would even betray his own people and side with the enemies in order to achieve what he wants. Robet de Brus was never seen again after this but he most likely died soon after as his condition was much worse and he even told his son that he will soon be dead. Robert the Bruce left the room and never wanted to hear from his father again. An enraged Robert the Bruce confronted his father which was the mastermind behind this, who told him that the capture of Wallace was the price for the crown of Scotland. When Wallace reached the city he was ambushed by English troops and captured. Even though Wallace suspected that it might be a trap he went as he needed the noble's support and believed that at least Robert the Bruce wouldn't betray him again as he saved him at Falkirk. Robert de Brus, himself set a trap for Wallace by using his son's closest advisor to tell him to come and meet them to Edinburgh and join forces once again against Longshanks. 
After the battle, his son regretful for what he did, he confronted him and Robert de Brus told him that betrayal is only natural.Įven though Wallace lost the battle he escaped and continued to rebel against the English and against the Scottish nobles who both wanted to capture him. That led to Robert the Bruce betraying William Wallace during the Battle of Falkirk. Even though, the rebellion was successful at first, Robert de Brus soon realized that King Edward would crush it and tried to advise his son to not support Wallace and instead join Longshanks and the Scottish nobles as only by doing that he will be the King. When the Scottish War of Independence under William Wallace begun with the killing of an English magistrate, Robert de Brus initially advised his son to embrace it while he would try to gain English favor by condemning it. He was ambitious and intended to have his son, Robert the Bruce, to become the King of Scotland, as he couldn't do it himself because of his condition. At one point, he suffered leprosy and couldn't personally join the meetings of the high Scottish council.
Robert de Brus was a Scottish noble with great influence in the council and also ties with the English and their ruthless King, King Edward I of England.
